As part of the commemoration of the International Day of Al-Quds, the local organizers of the Al-Quds Committee in Atlanta, GA. invited Rabbi Joel Loeb and Yeshaye Rosenberg to a Speech/Q&A session arranged on the premises of the Zainabia Islamic Education Center. The purpose of the session was to have an opportunity for the Muslim and Jewish communities to understand each other. The Rabbis were given the opportunity to address the community and shed light on the religious beliefs of Judaism, and the differences between its various denominations.

A definition of Judaism:

Rabbi Joel Loeb addressed the warm and welcoming audience and started his speech by stating how Judaism had gotten a falsified face in the eyes of the world, at the hands of the Zionist Regime, and so he was glad to have been given the opportunity to uncover the real face of Judaism. He defined Judaism as a nation loyal to god, and that Jews are servants of god. He emphasized the fact that only those who are following the commands of the Torah can call themselves Jews.

A brief history:

He went on to briefly recount the history of the arrival of the Jewish people in Palestine. He acknowledged and was thankful for the hospitality which their forefathers had experienced upon arrival in Palestine, after being expelled from Europe.

A definition of Zionism:

He proclaimed that since the Zionists don’t follow the commands of the Torah, they are heretics and not considered Jews, according to the Torah. He went on to say, “They are not our bothers. We don’t consider them as brothers and sisters. We don’t want to marry with them, because they are another nation. And we believe this is a terrible sin. And they are not considered Jews”. He indicated how the Zionists have hijacked Judaism and perpetrated an identity theft, and have portrayed the Torah-True Jews as “Self-Hating Jews”, as they are unable to label them as Anti-Semites. All Authentic Rabbis oppose them in the strongest terms.

Q & A Session:

The event was concluded with a short question and answer session, where Rabbi Loeb answered some questions on the origins of Zionism and how this movement and its leaders hijacked Judaism in pursuit of their own agenda. Among other questions, he was asked to shed light on the influence of Zionism on what happened in Germany, was the Holocaust a direst result of Zionist activity in Europe? He was asked to suggest effective ways of tackling the Zionist influence in the US?

The streets of Toronto were filled with the slogans of ‘Shame Shame Israel”, “Zionism is racism”, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free”, “Long live Palestine” and “Judaism, Yes, Zionism, No”. The over 3,000 attendees of the historic and largest Al-Quds rally ever held in North America and Western Europe included Rabbis from Neturei Karta (http://www.nkusa.org/) and attendees and speakers from Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Sikh and Anti-war groups who refuse to accept that Judaism is the same as Zionism and that criticism of Israel is the same as Anti-Semitism.

The rally was a huge success in terms of the turnout, the diversity of the speakers and participants, and the organized, legal and peaceful manner in which it was conducted. The speakers denounced efforts by the organizations, representing the Zionist settlers in Canada, to silence the voice of the oppressed. They commended the speaker of the Ontario Legislative Assembly, Mr. Dave Levac for showing character and standing up for the rights of Canadians to express their views freely. The speakers also appreciated the Ontario Legislative Assembly security officers and the Toronto Police Force for protecting the rights of Canadians guaranteed by the constitution.

The speakers also thanked United Church, the largest Protestant Church in Canada for adopting a resolution to boycott Israel. The adoption of the resolution shows that despite years of propaganda by the right wing media, more and more Canadians continue to denounce the barbaric policies of the State of Israel. Finally, multiple speakers thanked the Islamophobic right wing organizations and media that provided tremendous publicity to the Al-Quds rally, making wild and inaccurate accusations that the rally calls for ‘genocide of Jews’ and should not be allowed. The large number of Jewish participants and speakers in the Al-Quds rally proved the frivolity of their claims and the publicity provided by them resulted in the largest rally for Al-Quds ever held in the western world.

The organizers of the rally asked all the attendees to express their views in a peaceful and legal manner and cooperate with the law enforcement completely. The Jewish Defence League (JDL), declared by FBI as a right wing terrorist group organized a counter protest which raised very hateful slogans against the attendees and even against Canada. They continuously tried to provoke and disrupt the peaceful rally. The Zionists even confronted young children, telling 5 year olds that they are brainwashed by the parents, cursing and abusing a 12 year old calling him a terrorist and asking him to go back home, swearing at women and children, carrying signs against Canada and constantly confronting the Police officers. The disrespect shown by the Zionist to the law enforcement and to Canada was shocking. One of the JDL members was [arrested] by the Police. The organizers have captured a number of these incidents on video and will share them with the law enforcement and will consider legal proceedings under hate crime and defamation laws.

The difference between the two sides could not have been starker and reflected the positions they were representing. The Palestinian position was represented by a broad spectrum of attendees and speakers, expressing their views in a legal and peaceful manner. The Zionist side was represented by people with hateful signs and slogans, insulting Canada, swearing at police officers, constantly engaging in hate speech. These extremists did not have a permit to hold a protest and had no respect for the law enforcement trying to maintain order. They were employing the same tactics as their Israeli settler brethren who spit on Christian nuns and priests and engage in oppression of the Muslims in Palestine.

The frustration of the Zionist stems from their utter failure around the world to silence the critics of Israel through hateful [Islamophobic] [propagandas] and through ‘divide and conquer’. Their slogan of “Israel, a land with no people for a people with no land’ has one major flaw; there were and are millions of Christian and Muslim Palestinians living in Palestine and they refuse to surrender and disappear, despite 60 years of brutal atrocities. The racism of the state of Israel was expressed once again this summer by the Deputy Prime Minister, Eli Yishai, who speaking against the African migrants in Israel, stated that ‘Israel belongs to us, the white men’.

Al-Quds day rallies were held around the world including over 25 cities in USA and Europe and in Toronto, Montreal, Regina, Vancouver, Calgary and Ottawa in Canada. The increasing numbers of participants and their diversity in Al-Quds events around the world and in the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement is proof that the world has had enough with the barbaric and inhumane policies of the state of Israel and is uniting in solidarity with the Palestinians. The day is not far when Palestine will become a true democratic state where Jews, Muslims and Christians will be able to live in peace.

Long live Palestine!

Organizations representing the Zionist settler ideology in Canada suffered an important defeat when despite their propaganda, disinformation and bullying, the organizers of the Al-Quds rally obtained permission to express their solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine. Despite the efforts of the hate bloggers like Blazing Cat Fur (which a number of Muslim individuals and organizations are preparing to sue for defamation and hate speech) and his racist friends at Sun media and plans for counter demonstrations by Jewish extremists organizations like JDL (described by FBI as a right-wing terrorist group), the local organizers successfully presented their case for a legal and peaceful demonstration and obtained the permit.

The Zionists also suffered a similar defeat in London (UK), when the Transport for London refused to take down the Al-Quds day advertisements from the buses. The world refuses to accept that Zionism and Judaism are the same and that criticism and condemnation of the terrorist state of Israel and its barbaric and inhumane treatment of Palestinian is anti-Semitism.

The Zionists follow classic hate propaganda techniques for spreading disinformation but failed this time e.g. in case of the East End Madrassah (EEM), The Greater Toronto co-chair of the CIJA termed the assertion of Jews wanting to kill Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) a “horrific conspiracy theory” and “blood libel”, however, he did not mention that the same historical fact is being taught to Jewish children in Toronto at a number of Jewish Schools including the Joe Dwek Ohr Haemet Sephardic School. The book being referenced here is titled, 2000 Years of Jewish History: From the Destruction of the Second Bais Hamikdash Until the Twentieth Century, and is taught as a grade 7 and 8 history text book in Jewish schools in Toronto. Page 43 of the book states

“On one occasion, after a Jewish leader had been tortured and executed, his sister tried to avenge his death by poisoning Mohammed’s food. While the poison did not kill him, Mohammed suffered from its effects until the end of his life, four years later.”

So clearly the Jews did try to kill Prophet Mohammad (SAW), would the CIJA enter hate crime complains against the Toronto Jewish schools for the ‘horrific conspiracy theory’ and ‘blood libel’?

The books also mentions “Like Paul of Tarsus, inflamed by Jewish rejection, Mohammed turned into a rabid Jew-hater”, calls Shias ‘rabid fanatics” and have other very hateful comments against Christians and Jews. If calling a group of Jews 1,400 years ago ‘crafty’ and ‘treacherous’ is considered hate speech then surely calling St. Paul and Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) rabid Jew haters should fall in the same category? However, like any hate propaganda campaign, Islamophobia is all about spreading disinformation and things like truth and facts are not considered important.

It is also really ironic that the ‘The Center for Israel’ continues to accuse Canadian Muslim organizations of having links with foreign governments, once again, the name of the organization is ‘Center for Israel’, the last thing they should be doing is accusing other organizations of having links with foreign governments!

In order to understand why the local Zionists and the state of Israel are so full of hate, arrogance and contempt for others, one only needs to look at a sample of the views of their leaders. Please note that these are not the views of fringe elements; they are quotations from the military chiefs, prime minister, defense minister, chief rabbi and others:

“We declare openly that the Arabs have no right to settle on even one centimeter of Eretz Israel… Force is all they do or ever will understand. We shall use the ultimate force until the Palestinians come crawling to us on all fours.” Rafael Eitan, Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defense Forces – Gad Becker, Yediot Ahronot 13 April 1983, New York Times 14 April 1983.

“The Palestinians are like crocodiles, the more you give them meat, they want more”
Ehud Barak, Prime Minister of Israel at the time – August 28, 2000. Reported in the Jerusalem Post August 30, 2000

“One million Arabs are not worth a Jewish fingernail.” Rabbi Yaacov Perin, 28th of February, 1994, edition of The New York Times

“When we have settled the land, all the Arabs will be able to do about it will be to scurry around like drugged cockroaches in a bottle.” Raphael Eitan, Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defence Forces, New York Times, 14 April 1983.

“We must use terror, assassination, intimidation, land confiscation, and the cutting of all social services to rid the Galilee of its Arab population.” Israel Koenig, “The Koenig Memorandum.

“It is the duty of Israeli leaders to explain to public opinion, clearly and courageously, a certain number of facts that are forgotten with time. The first of these is that there is no Zionism, colonialization or Jewish State without the eviction of the Arabs and the expropriation of their lands.” Yoram Bar Porath, Yediot Aahronot, of 14 July 1972.

“[The Palestinians] are beasts walking on two legs.” Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin, speech to the Knesset quoted in New Statesman, June 25,1982.

During a sermon, the former chief rabbi of Israel Ovadia Yosef exclaimed: “May the Holy Name visit retribution on the Arab heads, and cause their seed to be lost, and annihilate them.” He added: “It is forbidden to have pity on them. We must give them missiles with relish, annihilate them. Evil ones, damnable ones.” Ha’aretz, April 12, 2001.

Deputy-Minister Boim and Knesset-Member Hazan declared: “All Muslims are murderers by birth. It is in their genes.” Haaretz, Feb 25, 2004.

“The killing by a Jew of a non-Jew, i.e. a Palestinian, is considered essentially a good deed, and Jews should therefore have no compunction about it.” Yitzhak Ginsburg, pamphlet compiled by Rabbi Yitzhak Ginsburg titled, “Five General Religious Duties Which Lie Behind the Act of the Saintly, Late Rabbi Baruch Goldstein, May his Blood be Avenged”.

Former chief Rabbi of Israel, spritual leader of the party in ruling coalition and reknowed Talmudic scholar, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef “”the sole purpose of non-Jews is to serve Jews. Non-Jews were born only to serve us. Without that, they have no place in the world-only to serve the People of Israel,” Yosef said in his weekly Saturday night sermon which was devoted to laws regarding actions non-Jews are permitted to perform on the Sabbath.” In Israel, death has no dominion over them… With gentiles, it will be like any person-They need to die, but God will give them longevity. Why? Imagine that one’s donkey would die, they’d lose their money. “This is his servant… That’s why he gets a long life, to work well for this Jew. “Why are gentiles needed? They will work, they will plow, they will reap; and we will sit like an effendi and eat.” “That is why gentiles were created.” Jerusulum Post, October 18, 2010.

The time has come for all Jews, Christians, Muslims and peace loving people to reject the Zionist ideology of racial superiority, hate and arrogance. The larger Jewish population in Canada must do more to distance itself from the racist bigots and extremists who feed on hate propaganda spewed through JDL, BlazingCatFur and other blogs and media outlets. To the non-Jewish readers of this blog, please do realize that these hatemongers and radicals do not represent the true faith of Judaism which is focused on repentance, self-improvement and serving the Al-Mighty and is represented by organizations like Netrurei Karta (http://www.nkusa.org/)

Muslims respect the Jews and Christians who are true to the Torah and Injeel(Bible). Islam teaches us to respect our Jewish and Christian neighbors.

The Obama Administration is pressing Palestine to delay a fresh bid to upgrade status at the United Nations as an independent state until after the US presidential election.

“There are pressures from the United States and some Arab parties to delay the voting until after the United States presidential elections, due in November,” Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee member, Saleh Raafat, said on Wednesday, Aug. 8.

He further added that, “We should reject this demand and insist on heading to the UN in September.”

Earlier this week, Palestinian Authority (PA) Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki announced that Palestine, which currently holds “observer” status at the UN, will ask to be upgraded to “non-member state” at the General Assembly meeting on September 27.

“Palestine will announce immediately to the General Assembly through the General Assembly president… We will head to the General Assembly and its president to tell him that Palestine wants to bid for getting this position,” Maliki told reporters in the West Bank city of Ramallah.

He said acting PA chief Mahmoud Abbas will make the request in a speech and the diplomats will then embark on a campaign to gain support from the member states. In 2011, a similar campaign failed due to opposition from the Zionist Regime and its traditional guardian, the US Administration.

Maliki, however, expressed hope that this time there will be 180 votes in favor of the bid and that Palestine will achieve non-member state status in 2012.

He also said the Palestinians will then pursue full UN membership in the future, which requires approval by the Security Council.

For several years, the Palestinians have been campaigning to achieve UN recognition as a sovereign state based on the pre-1967 borders.

The Guardian recently published an update on the case of the only IDF soldier charged with manslaughter for his aggression against Palestinian civilians in Operation Cast Lead. The article, “Ex-Israeli soldier jailed over deaths of Palestinian women”, sheds light on the gross bias of the judicial system of the occupying Zionist regime and the little regard it gives to innocent Palestinian lives.

In 2008, the Zionist regime’s 3-week onslaught on the Gaza Strip resulted in the massacre of approximately 1400 Palestinians. Among those murdered were a 64-year old woman named Rayah and her 35-year old daughter Majda, as they waved white flags to usher a group of 30 civilians, including children, to safety. Instead of receiving immunity which is the international convention of raising white flags, the Israeli Defense Force fired on the group instead. The two women were killed, and their murderer was indicted only for manslaughter. Recently this ex-soldier agreed to a plea bargain in which he agreed to serve a 45-day sentence for firing without orders, in exchange for the manslaughter charges being dropped.

According to the article, “the Israeli military said the charge was based on evidence that the former soldier, a marksman, ‘deliberately targeted an individual walking with a group of people waving a white flag without being ordered or authorized to do so’.”

Operation Cast Lead has received criticism from the international community for its aggression against the civilian population of Palestine. In the Goldstone Report commissioned by the United Nations, the actions of the Zionist regime were labeled war crimes, but justice for these crimes remains to be served in international courts.

A Palestinian activist says the Zionist regime is responsible for the deteriorating sanitary conditions in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Amjad al-Shawwa of the Palestinian Non-Governmental Organizations Network (PNGO) in Gaza City stated on Sunday that the besieged Palestinian territory seriously needs help from the “international community” with regard to its poor sanitation.

“Our children are growing in very bad conditions,” he said. “Israel is completely responsible for what is happening in Gaza.”

Many Gazans, especially youngsters, have developed pulmonary diseases in recent years as a result of the stench emanating from untreated solid waste, according to Gaza health officials.

Mohammad al-Moghari of the Environmental Quality Authority in Gaza also stated on Sunday that solid waste management is in a terrible condition due to the Zionist blockade.

“Problems resulting from the bad environmental conditions are piling up day after day and are endangering the lives of Gazans.”

The Zionist regime denies about 1.7 million people in the besieged Palestinian territory their basic rights, including the freedom of movement and the right to decent living, work, health and education.

Zionist settler violence against Palestinian civilians in the occupied West Bank and East Al-Quds (Jerusalem) has increased sharply since 2009, says a group of UN agencies and NGOs.

“Last year, the number of settler attacks resulting in Palestinian casualties and property damage increased by more than a third; since 2009 it increased by nearly 150 percent,” said a July 11 joint statement issued by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Ecumenical Accompaniment Program in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI), the Palestinian NGO Al-Haq and the Israeli NGOs Yesh Din and B’Tselem.

Jessica Montell, the director of B’Tselem, said in a joint press conference with representatives of the other groups in the West Bank city of Ramallah on Wednesday that there were “two distinct phenomena” regarding the issue.

The first was the “price tag phenomenon” and the second was “displacing Palestinians” and expanding the illegal settlements in “a very explicit way.”

Pauline Nunu of the EAPPI also stated that the illegal Zionist settlement expansion is “scaring the Palestinians and threatening them and forcing them to leave their community so that the settlers will take over the land.”

According to the UN figures, over 90 percent of complaints filed against Zionist settlers have not been addressed in recent years. The participants at the Wednesday press conference also censured the Zionist regime over the issue of settler violence. Illegal Zionist settlers often assault the Palestinians or vandalize their properties in the occupied territories. On June 17, a Zionist settler shot dead two Palestinians in the city of al-Khalil in the southern West Bank.

More than half a million Zionists live in over 120 illegal settlements built since the 1967 occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East Al-Quds (Jerusalem).

Al-Quds is Arabic for Jerusalem and its environs, the Holy Land. The International Day of Al-Quds is a day of solidarity with the oppressed innocent civilian population of Palestine and their struggle against the racist oppressive Zionist-Apartheid Regime.

Al-Quds Day events are held annually across the world in cities like Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Quetta, Hyderabad, Kabul, Dhaka, Kashmir, Jakarta, Tehran, Gaza, Qalandia, Ankara, Istanbul, Paris, London, Oslo, Berlin, Stockholm, Cairo, Baghdad, Azerbaijan, Qateef(Saudi Arabia), Malkiya(Bahrain), Damascus, and cities in Lebanon and Yemen. Many cities in the US such as Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, New York City, Phoenix, Portland, Salt Lake City, Seattle, St. Louis, Tampa, and Canadian cities such as Calgary, Vancouver, and Toronto have a history of commemorating this day.

The Al-Quds Committee and peace and justice loving individuals around the world have very serious concerns about the financial aid being sent to the Apartheid Zionist Regime and the political and diplomatic support provided by the US, Canadian and UK governments. The financial and political support is used by the Zionist regime to perpetrate oppression of innocent civilians, extend illegal occupation, increase settlement activity and cover-up horrific crimes against innocent civilians. From 2009 to 2018, the United States is scheduled to give the Zionist Regime (the largest recipient of U.S. assistance) $30 billion in military aid. Through its illegal 45-year military occupation of the Palestinian West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza Strip, the regime misuses U.S. weapons in violation of U.S. law to kill and injure Palestinian civilians, destroy Palestinian civilian infrastructure, blockade the Gaza Strip, and build illegal settlements in West Bank and East Jerusalem.

We protest the financial toll this amount of aid has taken on the lives of Americans, given the current economic down-turn. As a result, we face unemployment, loss of critical fire/rescue services, police, funding for education, and social services while precious American tax dollars are being used to support and sustain an immoral agenda of regional hegemony, occupation, oppression and a siege on a civilian population.

We are also concerned about the loss of reputation and the intensity of ill will that is generated throughout the world against the US, Canada and UK as a result of their prejudicial support of the Zionist regime, and demand an immediate end to supporting the heinous crimes of this racist regime.

On August 17 and 18, the Al-Quds Committee is coordinating peaceful Al-Quds Day events across US, Canada and UK which will be attended by Muslims, Christian, Jews and peace and justice loving individuals from all walks of life.

Earlier this month NPR aired a story by Lourdes Garcia-Navarro, titled “Walls Of Palestinian Homes Come Tumbling Down“. It seemed like the usual report on the Zionist Regime evicting Palestinian civilians from their homes and demolishing them on the so-called legal basis that they were built with a permit.

The Case of Sami Idriss

The report started by talking about the case of Sami Idriss, a 26 year old Palestinian, who had poured his savings into build his home, and was planning to get married in three months. While he was away at work, the Zionist Regime sent bulldozers to tear down his house:

“I came back and they were already tearing my house down,” he says. Idriss says he pleaded with the workers, saying he hadn’t received any notice or warning. He says they pushed him out of the building and continued to demolish his home.

The report cited that many of the nearby homes were built without permits as well. Additionally, in 60% of East Jerusalem & West Bank’s Area C (occupied and controlled by the Zionist Regime), there are thousands of Arab homes which already have demolition orders.

Why didn’t he just get a permit?

Regardless of the fact that the occupying authority is an illegal one, and one that isn’t even recognized, as practical matter, if there is a high risk of demolition, wouldn’t it make sense to get the proper paperwork done ahead of starting any building work?

The report cited Yigal Palmor, a spokesman for the Zionist Regime as saying:

“In any state where there is an urban authority around the world, you can’t just build wherever you like, whenever you like. You need a permit. If, at the end of the road, you don’t follow the necessary legal procedures, then inevitably there will be demolition… What is true is that they may feel less comfortable with the Israeli authorities, in the psychological realm… That may very well be the case and maybe this is why they resort to building without permits.”

Is it as easy as that? Ask, and Ye shall receive?

A deeper look into the matter and one is trouble to find the truth. A report by the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) uncovered that, under the Zionist Regime’s zoning policy:

“Palestinians can build in just 13 per cent of East Jerusalem and in just 1 per cent of Area C… Ultimately, the number of permits granted to Palestinians each year falls far below the demand. More than 94 per cent of all Palestinian permit applications have been rejected in recent years.
This means that when a family expands or a community wants to build infrastructure to meet its basic needs, the choice faced is between building without a permit, or not building at all. Many end up building to meet their immediate needs in the hope that they will be able to avoid demolition.”

Why not let them build?

If the Zionist Regime only allows Palestinians to build within “13 per cent of East Jerusalem and in just 1 per cent of Area C”, then why not let them build? Doesn’t the regime allow for the building of new Zionist outposts and settlements and the expansion of exiting ones? These aren’t even considered legal by any international authority. Aren’t those being built with permits?

A Systematic plan to Expel and Displace!!

The NPR article went on to cite an explanation by the head of the Palestinian Jerusalem Center for Socio-Economic Rights, Ziad Hamouri. “What we are facing is a real war. It’s a demographic war against the Palestinians… [The Israelis] want to control east Jerusalem; [the Palestinians] are losing east Jerusalem.”

If you only issue permits to the Zionist settlers, and deny them to the rest, you systematically control who gets to build and where. Gradually and quietly, you drive out the Palestinians, and expand into the vacated areas. All the while, the World, and the US administration specifically, turns a blind eye.

Commonly Asked Questions about the USS Liberty

Prepared by the Independent Commission of Inquiry

Source: IfAmericansKnew.org

1. What happened to the USS Liberty?
The USS Liberty was a virtually unarmed American navy ship that was attacked by Israeli planes and torpedo boats on June 8, 1967.

2. What were the American casualties?
34 American sailors were killed and 172 injured that day, a casualty rate of 70%. This is among the highest casualty rates ever inflicted upon a U.S. naval vessel.

3. What was Israel’s explanation for the attack?
Israel claimed the attack was “a case of mistaken identity”; that they didn’t know it was an American ship.

4. Why would we question that explanation more than 30 years later?
The ship’s survivors were afraid to speak out in the early years because of threats of “court martial, prison or worse” if they did not remain silent. However, as time passed, they have stepped forward to say the attack was deliberate.

Recently, high government and military officials have suggested that not only was the attack deliberate, but that the US government covered-up the incident. Today, an Independent Commission of Inquiry has found that Israel committed “an act of war” against the United States (see Findings of Independent Commission).

In addition, the Navy’s chief attorney to the original 1967 military Court of Inquiry has issued a statement that orders to cover-up the incident were issued by President Lyndon Johnson and Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara [see Statement of Captain Ward Boston, USN, JAG (Ret.)].

5. Did Israel have reason to believe the USS Liberty was an Egyptian ship?
Israel says its pilots and torpedo boat commanders confused the USS Liberty with the El Quseir, an Egyptian ship allegedly firing upon its forces in the Sinai. But there was no Egyptian naval bombardment that day; nor did the El Quseir (an unarmed 1920s-era horse carrier out of service in Alexandria) bear any resemblance to the Liberty.

6. Isn’t it difficult to identify a ship if you’re in an airplane?
In 1967, the USS Liberty was the most sophisticated intelligence ship in the world, with dozens of large antennas, including a large moon-bounce “satellite-dish” mounted on a tall structure near the stern. It may have been one of the most easily identifiable ships of any navy in the world. With a displacement of 10,000 tons, it was four times the size of the antique Egyptian transport it is claimed to have resembled. Freshly painted, the Liberty carried large white identification numbers on its bow. Egyptian hull numbers are painted black.

7. Doesn’t Israel say that the Liberty flew no flag?
According to American survivors, a 5-by-8 feet American flag was hoisted early that morning and was flying all day until it was shot away by attacking aircraft. Within several minutes, it was replaced by the giant 7-by-13 feet holiday ensign, which flew for the duration of the attack.

8. Could Israel have thought the ship was in a war zone, acting suspiciously?
According to surviving crewmembers, Israeli reconnaissance aircraft closely studied the Liberty over an eight-hour period prior to the attack, one flying within two hundred feet of the ship. At all times the Liberty was a clearly marked American ship in international waters, proceeding at a speed of only 5 knots.

9. What was the weather like the day of the attack?
Weather reports confirm that it was a clear day with unlimited visibility. The Israeli reconnaissance planes could have seen the Liberty’s crew sunbathing on the upper decks just before the attack. The flag was flying in a 12-knot breeze for most of the afternoon.

10. Doesn’t Israel say they ended the attack the minute they saw someone hoist an American flag?
The Israeli attack by combined air and naval forces spanned two hours — as long as the attack on Pearl Harbor. The air attack alone lasted approximately 25 minutes: consisting of more than 30 sorties by approximately 12 separate planes using napalm, cannon, and rockets which left 821 holes in the ship. Following the air attack, three Israeli motor torpedo boats torpedoed the ship, causing a 40’x 40’ wide hole in her hull, and machine-gunning firefighters and stretcher-bearers attempting to save their ship and crew. More than 3,000 machine-gun bullet holes were later counted on the Liberty’s hull. After the attack was thought to have ended, three life rafts were lowered into the water to rescue the most seriously wounded. The Israeli torpedo boats returned and machine-gunned these life rafts at close range. This was followed by the approach of two large Israeli Army assault helicopters filled with armed commandos carrying what appeared to be explosive satchels (they departed after hovering over the ship for several minutes, making no attempt to communicate).

11. Did the Liberty send out a distress signal when it was under attack?
Throughout the air attack, the Liberty’s radio operators found it difficult to transmit a distress signal because the attacking Israeli aircraft jammed all five of the Liberty’s American, not Egyptian, emergency radio channels. However, a call for help did reach the U.S. Navy command in the Mediterranean.

12. What was the American response time?
Although American carrier-based air support was only 40 minutes away, help did not reach the USS Liberty for seventeen hours. Navy fighters were launched from the aircraft carriers America and Saratoga while the Liberty was under attack. However, they were quickly recalled by the White House. This is the only instance in American naval history where a rescue mission was cancelled when an American ship was under attack.

13. Why would Israel have deliberately attacked an American ship?
Israel’s motive for launching the attack has never been determined with certainty. This is why an impartial investigation is critical. One hypothesis is that Israel intended to sink the ship (with no survivors) and blame Egypt because this might have brought the United States into the 1967 war. Another hypothesis is that the Liberty was gathering intelligence about activities that Israel did not want revealed. Examples might include the massacre of Egyptian prisoners of war that was then occurring in the Sinai, as well as Israel’s impending invasion of Syria.

14. Has the incident been investigated in the past?
Some people say that there have been “thirteen official investigations” all concluding the attack was a case of mistaken identity. Several were conducted by Israel. Upon examination, however, every one is based upon the conclusions of the original 1967 US Navy Court of Inquiry, which accepted the Israeli version, but which has been exposed and discredited by its chief attorney as a cover-up.

15. Did the surviving crewmembers testify in the other investigations?
In not one of these “investigations” were any of the Liberty’s surviving crewmembers permitted to publicly testify.

16. Why would the White House prevent the rescue of an American ship?
This is, perhaps, the most disturbing question arising out of Israel’s attack. It is why there needs to be a thorough investigation of the actions taken by the White House and the Secretary of Defense. Why did they order the recall of the planes that had been sent to rescue the Liberty? Why did they order that the survivors be silenced and the true facts be withheld from the American people?

17. What kind of investigation are you calling for?
We are calling for a new Court of Inquiry by the Department of the Navy, with congressional oversight, to take public testimony from surviving crewmembers and otherwise thoroughly examine the circumstances of the attack.

18. Why are you calling for a naval — and not a congressional — investigation?
We believe this would remove the inquiry from the political pressures traditionally exerted by special interest groups upon individual congressional offices. Fundraising and election pressures have prevented an honest investigation from being conducted for the past 36 years.

19. Why is this significant for the American people 36 years later?
We have a duty to the crew of the USS Liberty, while the survivors are still alive to testify, and while the perpetrators can be brought to justice. Furthermore, any policies that paralyze our elected leadership to the extent they become unable or unwilling to protect Americans and American interests, endangers not only the safety of all Americans but also the national security of the United States.

20. Doesn’t America have a special relationship with Israel?
No nation or people should be above the law; nor should American interests be subordinated to the interests of any foreign nation. Those Israelis responsible for ordering the attack and the resulting murder of American sailors must be held accountable for their actions.
